In today's article, we shall be listing some of the most popular Nigerian soup delicacies. Most Nigerian Soup is often used as sauce to eat Garri Paste, Fufu Paste, Amala Paste, Plantain paste or Semovita paste. These pastes are often rolled into bolus and swallowed with these soup delicacies. The following are the

Egusi Soup: Egusi soup one of the typical Nigerian soup delicacies. The primary ingredient of the Egusi soup is from the seed of ground melon fruit.  The ground melon seeds are grinded, and the paste is used to prepare the Egusi soup where other ingredients like crayfish, fish, meat, vegetables, spices and other soup ingredients.

Edikang Ikong Soup: This is a highly nutritious and protein-packed traditional Nigerian soup that is also commonly known as Nigerian Vegetable Soup. The soup is primarily made from fluted pumpkin leaves and water. Other soup ingredients can be added.

Afang Soup: This is a special delicacy of the Efik and ibibio tribes of Nigeria. Some parts of Cameroon bordering that part of Nigeria also enjoy this delicacy. Afang leaf also called Eru in Cameroon and Okazi in other parts of Nigeria is a flavorful green leafy vegetable (Gnetum africanum). The soup is primarily made from Afang leaves and water. Other soup ingredients can be added. Afang is a good source of powerful antioxidants which has been shown to be helpful in the treatment of spleen problems. Treatment of sore throat.

Bitter Leaf Soup: Bitter leaf soup is a popular soup recipe from eastern Nigeria. It is primarily made from bitter leaf plant (Vernonia amygdalina).  There are different ways to make bitterleaf soup, but the most popular recipe is the one that uses bitter leaves with water leaf. The bitter leaf has characteristic bitter taste which is often treated by washing off the chlorophylls to reduce the bitter taste. This is often achieved by washing and squeezing the smashed bitter leaves (and changing the water at intervals) till all traces of bitterness have been washed off. Bitter leaf has various therapeutic properties such as anti-malarial, anti-diabetic, anti-inflammatory, and antimicrobial activities. The bitter leaf plant is also used as herbal remedy for ailments such as fever, gastrointestinal disorders, diabetes, and skin infections. Fisher Man Soup: The primary ingredient for this type of soup is the fresh Catfish and other sea food such as shrimps, perewinkle of all types, crab etc.. This is a traditional Nigerian soup that’s served in most restaurants and bars. It’s made with a combination of catfish, pepper soup spices, onions, utazi leaves, fish seasoning, ground crayfish, seasoning cubes, paprika, salt, and ground pepper and other soup spices.

Okra Soup: Okra (Abelmoschus esculentus) is a flowering plant fruit known for its edible seed pods. the fruit pod of the okra fruit is the primary ingredient of the okra soup. This soup is one of the easiest Nigerian soups, its quick to prepare and very nutritious.  Okra is very rich in folate, antioxidants, magnesium, fiber, and vitamins C, K1 and A. Eating okra also help to a good healthy heart, support healthy pregnancy, blood sugar. According to recent research, it may also have anticancer properties. Apart from being consumed in the eastern Africa, it is also frequently used in Southern American cuisine and a popular addition to gumbo.
